Set in the Daintree Building, excellently designed in wood and weathered copper by Solearth Ecological Architecture company, The Cake Café is a splendid little avant-garde haven for everything shabby-chic and eco-friendly. The accolades earned by the crew in The Cake Café are endless and well deserved, with gushing write ups in almost every publication I can think of, from Vogue to the Irish Times. All mention the mix-n-match crockery, the rainwater-flush toilet and the delicious cakes. The menu is also both eclectic and eccentric, with my personal favourite being the home-made beans on chunky toast and the oddest being the traditional Portuguese sardines. Oh and P.S., save room for the carrot cake which is absolutely divine, dah-ling.
