Here’s my super secret recommendation for a great weekend away–avail of two of my favourite deals in Ireland: the 20 Euro return train ticket to Sligo coupled with the best hostel I’ve ever encountered: the Gyreum Ecolodge in Corlisheen, Castlebaldwin, Co. Sligo. The hostel is remote and sits on top of a large hill in Sligo—it’s perfect for long nights in, stargazing, hiking and social group gatherings. This Eco lodge won best European Green Building of the Year and is entirely powered on solar and wind energy and was built long before the green revolution! The building comes complete with a massive fireplace and a lookout tower with unobstructed views of the night sky. Six bed dorms are available for the cost of 17 Euro—or the best hostel deal around: a private room with a big, comfy, double bed for 25 Euro. The scenery is gorgeous, but be prepared for a trek to find the hostel. I recommend that you go with a group or at least one other person and hop a bus or taxi to Castlebaldwin.
