As part of   Dublin: One City, One Book, join us for a rehearsed reading of Deirdre of the Sorrows   by J.M. Synge, directed by Jim Culleton and introduced by Joseph O’Connor.  This reading takes place on Tuesday 5 April at 8pm, Abbey Rehearsal room.

Did you know?

  • Deirdre of the Sorrows was Synge’s last play and was unfinished at his time of death.
  • Popular history says Synge’s fiancée, Molly Allgood, took it upon herself to finish the play.  It is likely that W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory also contributed to its completion.
  • The role of Deirdre was written for Molly Allgood, who played Deirdre in the play’s premiere at the Abbey Theatre in 1910.

Join the Abbey Theatre for this tribute to Synge’s work; a classic play that has formed part of the Abbey repertoire for over 100 years.
