Looking for an inventive day trip? Why not head over to neighbouring county Kildare to visit the National Stud and the Japanese Gardens? A must-see for horse-racing enthusiasts and a great day out, the Irish National Stud is home to some of Ireland’s finest racehorses. Join a guided tour of the farm, then pop into the state-of-the-art Horse Museum, where the nation’s long love affair with horse racing is brought to life. Wander around the internationally acclaimed Japanese Gardens, created in the early 20th century by Japanese gardener Tassa Eida and his son, and Saint Fiachra’s Garden, dedicated to the patron saint of gardeners and designed to capture the main elements of the Irish landscape: rock and water.  For transportation from Dublin City to Kildare, you have a couple of options:  the bus or the train. Remember when booking the train to book online and check every time offered that day—reduced fares are offered at off-peak times and there can be upwards of a 30 Euro difference for the same ticket at a different time on the same day. For both the train and the bus, you should book student tickets and remember to carry and show your student travel card when collecting the tickets.  Bus: Monday/Saturday from Central Bus Station (Busaras) at 9.30 am Return journey from Japanese Gardens – Bus leaves at 3.45 p.m. Sunday from Busaras at 10 am & 12 noon Return journey from Japanese Gardens – Bus leaves at 3 pm and 5.30 pm (double-check these times to ensure their accuracy).  Train: Mainline to Kildare Station: the Arrow runs from Heuston Station, Dublin to Kildare every 35 minutes. A shuttle bus operates from the Kildare Train Station to Kildare Town, Kildare Village Outlet Shopping and the Irish National Stud. This Shuttle Bus is operated by Kildare Village Retail Outlet.
