Day Trip to Dalkey
Venue: Dalkey, Co. Dublin Website: www.dalkey.ie Price: €4.40 round trip Date: Ongoing Time: Whenever you like!
Dalkey is one of the many beautiful coastal villages within convenient reach of Dublin. Just half an hour on the DART will take you there and a round trip costs less than €5, making it perfect for a day trip. The village is located south of Dublin and has a lot to offer in terms of scenic walks, pubs, restaurants and heritage.
The Castle and Heritage Centre stages living history performances to bring to life the town’s medieval past. If you are a walker, you won’t be bored in Dalkey. Bullock Harbour (a declared seal sanctuary) and Killiney Hill are beautiful spots, with the latter offering spectacular views of the Dublin coastline from Howth to Bray. It is also possible to hire a boat out to Dalkey Island where there is a well-established seal colony, a herd of wild goats and a few birdwatchers! Strolling around the village provides its own delights however, with a selection of cosy cafes and the Dalkey market. The market takes place every Friday from 10am to 3pm, selling a good range of local produce.
The fact that this is a well-to-do suburb with property at a premium makes it just the place for a nosey. You might even spot Bono or the Edge!
