Dun Laoghaire is a vibrant seaside town located just 8miles south-east of Dublin and a short DART ride from the city centre. Its focal point is the splendid harbour. Generations have ‘taken the air’ on its East and West Piers ever since the harbour was constructed in the early 19th century and locals will tell you that it is one of the finest, largest man-made harbours in the world. Up past the Town Hall and Pavilion Theatre lies the town itself, a perfect fusion of the contemporary and the historic, with its red-brick shop frontages from the Victorian era. Close at hand is the Mariner’s Church, dating from 1837 it is one of only two of its kind in the world and now houses the National Maritime Museum of Ireland. There is no shortage of outdoor activities to participate in here, some of the most popular being fishing, sailing and rock climbing. Other events of interest include a bi-monthly antiques fair on Sundays in the Royal Marine Hotel and a weekly Sunday farmers market held in the People’s Park.
