Marlay Park is a beautiful 300 acre suburban public park located in Rathfarnham, about six miles from Dublin city centre. Marlay House, a fine example of Georgian architecture sits within the parkland and there is also a quaint courtyard featuring a variety of arts and crafts shops and a farmer’s market every Saturday. The gardener’s cottage houses a cosy café, perfect for a hot chocolate after your walk.
The park is worth a visit at any time, but this Saturday, to coincide with National Tree Day, author of ‘Irish Trees: Myths, Legends & Folklore’, Niall Mac Coitir will be on hand, offering a quirky tour around the park to identify multiple tree species and impart some interesting facts about their associated myths, legends and uses. It is necessary to book your place in advance by emailing dublinbranch@iwt.ie. The meeting place is outside the main house.
