This Tuesday the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, in association with Boston College Ireland, will be launching a new book by authors Mike Cronin and Roisin Higgins: Places We Play: Ireland’s Sporting Heritage. Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport will be presiding over the event which takes place in the Real Tennis Court beside the National Concert Hall on Earlsfort Terrace, an appropriate venue for a book that focuses on sporting sites around the country. Instead of picking a particular sport or player, Mike and Roisin look at the importance of the places where sport is played, from tennis courts to cricket grounds, swimming pools to golf clubs. Quite apart from the interesting subject matter, this is a perfect opportunity to see inside a beautiful Georgian building not normally open to the public.
