Poetry Night at The Gutter Bookshop

Venue: The Gutter Bookshop, Cow’s Lane, Temple Bar, Dublin 8 Website: http://www.gutterbookshop.com Price: FREE Date: Thursday 19th January Time: 6:00-7:15pm

No amount of e-readers and digitized material can ever replace the real pleasure of browsing the shelves of a good bookshop of an afternoon. Now more than ever, small independent book stores are in need of support. With a visit to the delightful Gutter Bookshop on Cow’s Lane, however, the thought of charity will be very far from your mind. The selection of material here has been chosen with an expert hand. An entire section is devoted to staff recommendations, written out lovingly and in detail. This is a fantastic place for a bit of quiet, or indeed for striking up a conversation with the owner and signing up for the many events run here.

The next event to note is Poetry Night on Thursday, January 18th. Visitors are welcome to read their own poems, read something by someone they admire, or just sit and listen. To give Poetry Night a fresh twist for 2012 a topical theme will be chosen for each month – for January the theme is ‘Winter’.

Don’t be discouraged by the name ‘Gutter Bookshop’ ; it is taken from the famous Oscar Wilde quotation:
