The wonderful Temple Bar food market is a culinary paradise for Saturday strollers. From January the colourful market will be reinstated in its rightful home in Meeting House Square after a period of displacement to allow for the construction of a canopy. Browsers will now be protected from the Irish elements; and let’s face it, there is nothing more defeating than trying to eat a rain-sodden burrito!
The market features a wide range of stalls selling fish, fruit and vegetables, flowers, bread, cheese, coffee and hot treats that you can nibble while you stroll. My personal favourites are The Real Olive Co. and all three cheese stalls. The Real Olive Co. sells the tastiest stuffed olives as well as a range of gorgeous salads and mouth-watering pestos, hummus and tapenades. If, like me, you fancy yourself as having a Mediterranean palate, the only problem is knowing when to stop! As for the cheeses…! What can I say? All three regular cheesemongers are incredibly knowledgeable and more than happy to recommend and provide tasters. Corleggy Cheeses produces artisan cheeses from the proprietor’s farm in County Cavan. These wonderful hard cheeses are made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk and have won a plethora of awards. Sheridan’s specializes in fine cheeses from around the world while Paddy Jack’s Abbey Cheese, from Co. Laois, has become well-known for its Brie and Blue varieties.
Simply writing this is making me hungry. Role on Saturday!
