Philadelphia, Here I Come! is a famous play by Irish dramatist Brian Friel. Set in the early 1960s, the drama centres around Gar O’Donnell’s last evening in Ballybeg, Donegal, before he emigrates to Philadelphia. Through Gar and his alter ego we experience his emotional struggle; on the one hand drawn by the opportunities for success, wealth and love that America offers but still with one foot in Ballybeg, where a single word of affection from a dour, uncommunicative father might convince him to stay.

At times hilarious, at times tragic, this Friel classic has an added poignancy when emigration is again a reality for a new generation of Irish youth. This adaptation is produced by Taney Drama Society.
