The more cynical among us may see Arthur’s Day as an ingenious marketing ploy to get more people drinking Guinness in the pub on a school night, but the event has also raised a lot of money for the Arthur Guinness fund since the first Arthur’s Day in 2009.
The city is alive with music on Arthur’s Day and as Dublin can be quite expensive it’s a great opportunity to music and dance for free. There are a number of major music acts such as Mumford and Sons, Tinie Tempah and Fatboy Slim playing at some secret locations around the city for free and there is live music in a number of bars and clubs for the day. So, how does one celebrate Arthur’s Day? Well, you get yourself to a pub on the 27th, and at 17:59 (5:59pm) share a toast to Arthur Guinness shouting the words “TO ARTHUR”. This is a reference to 1759 – the year the Guinness brewery was established.
Alcohol will be available at this event to those over the age of 18. Please always drink sensibly and responsibly.
